Visual System Design Through Creative Discovery, Strategic Guidance, and Executional Efficiency
iAir Systems initially approached Hatch with a straightforward request: a set of icons. But like many high-performing industrial B2B brands, what they truly needed wasn’t just iconography — it was visual direction that could anchor a wide range of marketing deliverables, starting with an explainer video.
The Objective
To establish a visual reference system that could support consistent brand expression across technical sales materials, explainer content, and internal design assets — beginning with a stylescape and extending into a modular icon set.
The goal was to design with scalability in mind, so that brand assets could be used not only for a single video but also across decks, PDFs, and digital channels.
The Challenge
At project kickoff, iAir Systems lacked a formal brand identity system.
Their logo, typography, and color use had been applied inconsistently across communications — and their request for icons revealed deeper structural gaps:
- There was no visual system to guide the look of technical diagrams, dashboard overlays, or motion assets.
- Creative direction for video production lacked a visual foundation.
- Stakeholders were unsure how to translate complex engineering concepts like dust extraction, oil mist, and process cooling into cohesive visuals
Because it also served as the backbone for programs like Seed the South, the visual system had to be scalable across multiple sub-brands without dominating them.
The Process
Hatch implemented a phased creative strategy to address both foundational and executional gaps in one seamless process.
→ Creating a Strategic Stylescape
Rather than jumping straight into icon design, Hatch led with a strategic stylescape. This visual system explored tone, line weight, color balance, and metaphor — including visual cues for air movement, industrial precision, and human reliability.
The stylescape gave structure to iAir’s brand and allowed the internal team to align before production began — while also setting up the explainer video team with clear visual guidance.
→ Clarifying Use Cases and Scenarios
Hatch collaborated with iAir’s team to clarify where and how the icons would be used — from website and PDFs to process diagrams and videos. This step ensured that icons weren’t just aesthetic — they were purposeful, systemized, and scalable.
→ Designing in Batches for Milestone Clarity
With alignment in place, Hatch delivered the icon set in two curated batches:
- Batch 1: Mission-critical icons tied to products and services (dust extraction, oil mist elimination, etc.)
- Batch 2: Industry applications and conceptual icons (employee-owned trust, clean air, turnkey solutions, etc.)
This allowed for a fast review cycle, while also giving iAir flexibility to expand or repurpose assets.
→ Managing Strategic Scope Drift
As the project unfolded, the original scope of “just icons” expanded to include brand system design. Hatch navigated the shift in needs without delaying execution — providing direction without overstepping the original scope, and pausing responsibly when internal delays arose.
→ Creative Alignment in B2B Contexts
Throughout the engagement, Hatch acted not just as a creative executor, but as a strategic creative partner. By identifying gaps, aligning on tone, and delivering in scalable phases, Hatch helped iAir lay the foundation for future-ready brand visuals — all without slowing down the explainer video timeline.
→ iAir Systems Visual System Design
In a nutshell: Hatch’s B2B creative partnership with iAir Systems transformed a basic icon request into a foundational visual identity system. By leading with a strategic stylescape, guiding icon use-case clarity, and delivering assets in tightly managed phases, Hatch enabled iAir to strengthen both execution and brand consistency.
This collaboration showcases how early discovery and creative alignment can create visual systems that drive long-term impact — especially in B2B environments where technical storytelling must remain clear, consistent, and on-brand.
