Seed the South 2025 Event Branding
Event Branding Through Theme Development, Cross-Partner Alignment, and Strategic Rollout Planning
Seed the South, an annual innovation conference hosted in Charlotte, NC, was evolving in its fifth year and required a refreshed creative approach to reflect its new direction. Initially perceived as a one-off request for a hero graphic, the scope quickly expanded into full-fledged event branding to support their evolving stakeholder and partnership ecosystem.
Seed the South operates under the umbrella of Innovate Charlotte, a civic-backed nonprofit driving the local startup and innovation ecosystem. As a sub-brand, its creative direction needed to reflect both the independence of a flagship event and the credibility of its parent organization.
The Objective
The creative needed to resonate with founders, funders, corporate partners, and civic institutions — without looking like a templated startup event.
The Challenge
When Hatch stepped in, Seed the South had a legacy logo and a general brand presence under the Innovate Charlotte umbrella, but no distinct visual system or theme-specific identity.
→ The event had grown more ambitious in scope, but the visuals hadn’t evolved with it.
→ Multiple stakeholders, including civic funders and accelerators, needed alignment.
→ The creative needed to visually separate the event from government or startup incubator clichés.
Hatch had to work within a narrow window to ideate, design, and roll out a campaign direction that looked confident, future-ready, and rooted in business outcomes.
The Process
To deliver a strategic, future-proof campaign for Seed the South, Hatch executed a phased creative approach to align stakeholders, visuals, and messaging.
→ Theme and Brand Narrative Development
A dedicated brand stylescape was developed to define the campaign’s graphic language. This included:
- A color story that balanced corporate credibility with modernity
- A flexible typography system
- Graphic elements inspired by architecture, modularity, and applied systems
This stylescape became the foundation for everything from hero graphics to printed banners and digital collateral.
→ Campaign Asset Production
With visual alignment locked, Hatch produced key assets:
- Hero graphics for digital and print
- On-site environmental banners and wayfinding
- Sponsorship decks and social templates
- Print-ready collateral for partner distribution
→ Partner Alignment and Adaptive Rollout
Throughout the process, Hatch worked with a cross-functional client team — balancing startup accelerator goals with funder optics and city-driven messaging.
Design decisions were anchored in the theme’s business narrative, so even when partners had differing preferences, the visuals maintained coherence and integrity.
